The website collects their past presentations, publications, exhibitions, press coverage, and all of their works, of which Many Eyes, FleshMap, and Phrase Nets are just a few. Most projects are remarkable in their apparent focus on combining the aspects of beauty and story-telling through the presentation data. Pedro Torres presents at Round Corner, the sound-installation For Nothing, based on the work by Samuel Beckett Texts For Nothing.

Pedro Torres entices us to hear voices that plunge into the emptiness. Murmured vocal blows. Spoken murmurs, whispered, hard to save. Like the sound. Like every other voices we hear and don’t want to hear, the inner voices that usually chase us and betray us too often. Is there infinitude of muted sounds that elude us: either because we don’t pay them the due attention or just because our hearing ability is formatted between the 20 hertz and 20 kilohertz? An ABC of Aesthetic Journalism is a an ongoing work that aims to collect together text, images, videos, and ideas relating to the field of Aesthetic Journalism. An ABC consists of this blog, which is an archive of information and ideas, and a live performance lecture using the blog, which took place at the Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen on the 07.11.09 to celebrate the launch of Alfredo Cramerotti’s book, Aesthetic Journalism.

An ABC aims to use the book Aesthetic Journalism as a resource to bring together ideas and references whilst demonstrating some of the strategies found in this field; such as revealing the position of the author or editor, adopting and adapting mainstream methodologies of communication in a self-reflexive way, and revealing the production process in terms of both meaning and material. Facebook: The Role of the Human Agent in a Non-Neutral Technology

Abstract: It is hard to dispute the popularity of online social networking especially amongst the young generation. Yet there is little consent about the moral dimension of social network sites, such as Facebook, Bebo and Friendster. For social critics they are merely a means of surveillance and control, while for many members of the digital audience they are a fascinating way to create and validate friendships in a virtual world and place oneself on public display in an almost exhibitionist manner. This essay aims to explore the ‘non-neutrality’ of online social networking (Facebook) in contrast to the significance of the human agent and his-her purposeful use of the technology. Light’s argument on the relevance of the Actor Network Theory (ANT) developed in the work of Latour will be examined and contrasted with the social constructivist view that the actual behaviour of the human agent who uses the technology towards a purpose that sustains a personal meaning may render the alleged amoral dimension of the technology less significant for the individual.

The Visual Collider: Artist book and projection by Nina Czegledy and Marcus Neustetter :: January 7, 2010; 6:30 pm :: Space on Dobbin, 50-52 Dobbin Street, Brooklyn, New York.

On November 29, 2009, billions of subatomic particles were smashed together in nano-seconds. This occurred in Switzerland, inside the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world’s most powerful particle accelerator, designed to mimic the first moments of the Big Bang. Thousands of scientists worked for decades to achieve this scientific spectacle, “challenging those who seek confirmation of established knowledge, and those who dare to dream beyond the paradigm.” Inspired by a lecture on the LHC, artists Nina Czegledy and Marcus Neustetter set out to create a visual collider for the images and impressions they produce individually. For the 5th edition of the Bains numériques Digital Arts International Festival, the Centre des Arts is organising an international competition for creations mixing dance and new technologies. This international call for project proposals aims at pre-selecting 8 hybrid stage form to be presented during the festival. A dedicated Committee will be assigned to select projects coming from the African Continent in order to ensure representation of African Digital Art and to select an African Project which will join the 7 other Works in competition. One Part Human brings together artists who explore the tension between human and technological capabilities in today’s scientific society. The exhibition includes two remarkable motorized sculptures by Canadian artists who have not exhibited previously in New York: Perfect Vehicle by Simone Jones and Robotic Chair conceived by visual artist Max Dean and realized in collaboration with Raffaello D’Andrea and Matt Donovan. Brian Knep, an artist in residence at Harvard Medical School, will exhibit photography and high definition video related to the microscopic worm, Caenorhabditis elegans, one of the most studied multi-cellular organisms in the world Continue reading

Upgrade! Paris: Art of Failure presents Corpus on the occasion of the “Corpus” exhibition opening :: January 7, 2010; 6:30 pm :: Théatre Molière – Scène d’Aquitaine / OARA, 33 rue du temple, Bordeaux, France.

Corpus is a set-up which uses sound, architecture and multimedia technology to stage objects, furniture, architecture or a place and set them into pulsating vibration. The various elements which compose the inherent identity of place thus become active or ‘living’ and breathe life into sounds specific to their personality. The selected place becomes the instrument on which the duo of musicians play, offering their audience a unique physical experience of place at once richly sensorial and other-worldly.
