make-shift is a unique and intimate networked performance that speaks about the fragile connectivity of human and ecological relationships. Devised by Paula Crutchlow (Devon based performer and director) and Helen Varley Jamieson (NZ writer and cyberformer) the performance takes place simultaneously in two separate houses that are connected through a specially designed online interface. Teleshared actions are procedures for collaborative creation in real time. The works are produced online between two or more users by means of interactive systems or telepresence. These expanded performative practices generate new spaces, languages and narrative forms. The possibility of the “body-less” message. And all of this founded on a basic concept: transform space into time. The workshop consists of teleshared actions which give an incentive to experimentation and critical reflection in relation to remote communication processes. Continue reading

In 1975 Keith Sonnier submitted a preliminary request to NASA to do an interactive transmission between artists via the CTS public satellite, coast to coast. In 1976 he asked Liza Béar to coproduce this project with him. They travelled to Washington DC to attend workshops, crack the bureaucratic code and learn the NASA lingo. Continue reading

Robots and Avatars :: Call for Proposals — Deadline: September 7, 2011.

Robots and Avatars is an intercultural, intergenerational and interdisciplinary exploration of a near future world consisting of collaborations between robots, avatars, virtual worlds, telepresence and real time presence within creative places, work spaces, cultural environments, interactive entertainment and play space.

Robots and Avatars will present two Development Commissions and additionally a minimum of six existing works as an Exhibition in 2012. Lead producer and concept developer of this EU Culture project is body>data>space and the partner for the commissions is National Theatre in London. Continue reading
