upgrade_ghent.jpgUpgrade! Brussels/Ghent: Performance: October 14, 2008; 8:00 pm :: Talk: October 15, 2008; 8:00 pm :: Vooruit Arts Centre, Ghent - Belgium :: These evenings are part of Almost Cinema, a collaboration between Vooruit and Filmfestival Ghent.

PERFORMANCE NIGHT: October 14, 2008; 8:00 pm :: with BROK & HALMANS - SHIFT, MOMENI & BITHEL – THE LIMINAL SURFACE EN HOLZER – TONEWHEELS :: Record players, lights, cameras, synthesizers… These are the ingredients Rikkert Brok and Maarten Halmans use to create their own equipment. For the performance Shift they also manufactured the required material themselves. In an intimate face-to-face with his colleague Ali Momeni, David Bithell blends elements of live performance, video, music technology and improvisation into a playful game that hovers between tragedy and comedy. Derek Holzer’s performance Tonewheels is an experiment that turns graphic images into sound with the help of tonewheels.

FRICTIESSALON DELUXE :: October 15, 2008; 8:00 pm :: talk with ALEXIS DESTOOP, ANNA RISPOLI & CHRISTOPHE MEIERHANS, PHILIP WARNELL :: An evening with presentations of artists that approach cinema from an unexpected angle. We will host Philip Warnell who is famous for his experiments with projecting film on the human eye. He will talk about the making process of his new film. Anna Rispoli and Christophe Meierhans will report in the form of a lecture/performance about their project ‘The Pitch’ in which they want to restage an american western with local actors in Sudan. And Alexis Destoop will talk about his new film Kairos, a cross between science fiction and a road movie in close collaborations with soundartists Stephen O’Malley and Oren Ambarchi.
