This is the time when the atmosphere is no longer filled with the fine sunlight, when the sun reaches 18 degrees or more below the horizon.

The Widget Art Gallery – for IPhone, IPod, IPad

wag.jpgThe Widget Art Gallery or WAG is a mini 3-dimensional, single room gallery that fits into your pocket because it was developed for IPhone, IPod Touch and I Pad. Every month, directly on your mobile, the WAG will host a solo digital art exhibition related to the dynamic site-specific contest. So, the Widget Art Gallery works both as a sort of kunsthall showing temporary exhibitions and as a permanent collections museum because it conserves all the past exhibitions in an online archive. Produced by Artists’ Association MUU, INVISIBLE TIME is an exhibition of international Sound Art featuring works by 12 artists from 11 countries. It includes four sound installations: Miriam Akkermann’s (South Korea) interactive Info-Room deals with information exchange and its position in society. Derek Holzer (USA) uses self-made electronics and electro acoustic soundboxes in his installation, whereas Takashi Mitsui (Japan) employs ambient sound from Helsinki in his installation Symphony Room Number L-33. The year of 2012 marks the 80th anniversary of Nam June Paik’s birth and the 100th anniversary of John Cage’s birth. The exhibition includes Cage’s and Paik’s works, but also works of today’s sound artists inheriting the two frontiers’ experimentations.

The term “x_sound” has a triple meaning: a sound that is unknown(x), that is ex-panded and that ex-pels fixed ideas about sound. “Sound” itself is literally a neutral and straightforward term, but in the contemporary art’s context, it’s a complex arena of different questions and discourses. Mendi and Keith Obadike and the Stereo Helix

bell.jpgAmerican Cypher: Stereo Helix for Sally Hemings — by Mendi and Keith Obadike — transforms the stairwell of the Elaine Langone Center at Bucknell University into a sound art chamber :: February 21 – April 30, 2012 :: Artists Talk and Reception: February 29; 7:00 pm :: Gallery Theatre, 3rd floor, ELC.

Artists Mendi and Keith Obadike describe the Stereo Helix for Sally Hemings, part of their American Cypher project, as a sonic drawing created for the lobby of the ELC. The primary sound source for this work is a small antique bell that belonged to Sally Hemings, given to her by Martha Jefferson (her half-sister and Thomas Jefferson’s wife). Continue reading
