Open Source City Micro- Festival [uk Liverpool]

opensourcecity.jpgLIVERPOOL will host the Open Source City Micro- Festival:: a micro-festival of open source practice in the production of media art and music :: June 20th to 22nd 2008 :: 40-42 Slater St, Liverpool L1 4BX.

folly and SoundNetwork are kicking off the Summer with an exciting collaboration bringing a micro-festival of art and music to Liverpool, as part of the European Capital of Culture.

Liverpool has a strong history of doing innovative things with electricity, from the birth of the power grid (Sebastian Ferranti) to the early computer games industry (Psygnosis, Ocean, and ZTT). Liverpool also has a formidable musical legacy inevitably centered around the pop phenomenon of The Beatles but which spans every musical genre from classical to electro. Continue reading

Since its development in the mid-twentieth century, the electric guitar has had a profound influence on many aspects of music, creating new sounds, spurring the development of new musical styles, and reshaping concepts of musicianship. In the early twenty first century, despite retaining its iconic status as a symbol of innovation and transgression, the electric guitar and its uses now seem commonplace, almost routine; in short, the instrument may be in danger of losing its edge. Netaudio: Call for Entries [uk London]

141.jpgNetaudio, the Offline Festival for Online Music comes back to London after a great festival in Berlin in 2007: Netaudio’08 will take place from October 22 to 25 at Shunt, a extensive labyrinth of tunnels underneath London Bridge Station. Over four nights we will celebrate the creative output of networked musicians and online communities with talks, workshops, showcases and performances.

Parts of Netaudio’08 will be programmed through an open call for entries. With this call we would like to give you the chance to put our attention to your creative activities related to the festival theme.
