Live Stage: Infantcore [us Los Angeles]

Taking the term “experimental venue” to one of its possible extremes, Machine Project brings you Infantcore. We have garnered a cadre of infant volunteers, graciously donated by their parents, who will serve as variables in an algorithmic sound composition. Scott Cazan has written some software for the occasion that uses a camera and a computer to track the babies’ movements and convert that information into different sonic phenomena. How will this sound? As we have never done this before, we really have no idea. It could sound terrible, not work, be boring, embarrass everyone and end in tears – like most everything at Machine Project. Continue reading

This event will feature two pieces in the Vigilance Improvisations framework: “Mutability” performed by Bryan Eubanks and Eric Laska; and “Recursion” performed by Bonnie Jones and Reed Evan Rosenberg and presented by the Philadelphia Sound Forum.

Now embarking on its 32nd year, New Radio and Performing Arts, Inc. — an independent not-for-profit organization founded in New York City — continues to agitate the institutional art world through its trailblazing projects, including New American Radio (1987-1998), (1996-), Networked _ Performance (2004-), Networked _ Music _ Review (2007-), and Networked: a (networked _ book) about (networked _ art) (2009-).

Since 1981, NRPA has commissioned more than 500 works by more than 400 artists, many of them just beginning their careers. The archive spans a crucial 15-year period of exploration and innovation in digital, networked environments, ranging from hypertext to information visualization, blogs to social networks, and interactive dance/musical compositions to 3-D architecture.
